Wax : Mainly waxes are all primarily hydrocarbons, which are an organic compound that characteristically consist of long alkyl chains. The compounds including in any kind of wax specifies the type of wax, for instance a wax made of hydrogenation vegetable oil is named vegetable wax. Soya bean oil, palm oil and coconut oil is an example of vegetable oils but the most important wax is carnauba wax that has many applications. On the other hand we have animal wax, the most known is beeswax. Beside these waxes we have petroleum waxes and mineral waxes. All these types of wax are counted as natural waxes and synthetic waxes are counted as artificial waxes. The natural waxes are used in cosmetic and foods and are human and environmental friendly.
Widely used for making candles, it is inexpensive, eco-friendly and has various melting points. These characteristics is ideal for making different kinds of candles as it also holds high amount of color and fragrances.
Made from soy beans, it is temperamental towards temperature and burns slowly. In comparison to paraffin wax it is more eco-friendly but can not hold fragrances as paraffin.
Beeswax is another eco-friendly wax in addition to that it purifies the air with its sweet natural fragrance. As its name implies it is derived from bees and are the oldest type which has been used since many centuries. At the time when worker bees are making honey the beeswax is made in order to build honeycomb cells.
Unlike beeswax, coconut wax is a new type product. Similar to paraffin wax it holds color and fragrances very well but is very expensive. An advantage this wax has is that when it burns it produces little soot.
They are mostly used as coating in industries but has other usages such as as matting agent and as slip agent in furniture. Hard fats, soy wax and paraffin wax are used to make candles. As mentioned before they have a wide range of usage and as waxes are waterproof they are used in different kinds of polish makings, cosmetics, coatings, inks and adhesive. Moreover, waxes have the characteristics to be solid in room temperature but are liquid when heated. Hence, they are easy to reform, storage and transport.
